Florida Medical Licensing & Florida Board of Medicine Application Support

We prepare and manage Florida Department of Health / MQA applications for MDs, DOs, PAs, ARNPs, and allied health professionals — including the Board of Medicine, Board of Osteopathic Medicine, IMLC, and out-of-state telehealth registration.

How Florida medical licensing actually works

Every physician license in Florida is issued through the Department of Health's Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA). MDs are regulated by the Florida Board of Medicine; DOs by the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine. PAs, ARNPs, respiratory therapists, and other allied health professionals each sit under their own Florida board within MQA. Applications, renewals, and disciplinary matters all flow through the MQA online portal.

The Florida application is document-heavy. Any gap in medical education verification, postgraduate training certificates, malpractice history, or CME can move a file to a deficiency queue where it waits for the next Board review. Our role is to assemble a complete packet the first time, coordinate FCVS where useful, and respond quickly to any Board request so the file keeps moving.

Florida medical license FAQ

Which Florida agency issues medical licenses?

Physician licensing in Florida runs through the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA). MDs are licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and DOs by the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine. Physician Assistants, ARNPs, and most allied health professions are licensed by their own boards under MQA. All applications are filed through the MQA online portal.

How long does a Florida medical license take?

MQA generally reviews complete MD and DO applications within roughly 60 to 120 days of receipt of a full file. Timing depends on training verification, FCVS turnaround, response to any board deficiency letters, and the Board's meeting schedule. We do not guarantee a processing time — the Board controls the calendar.

Does Florida require FCVS?

The Florida Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine accept FCVS for primary-source verification of medical education and postgraduate training. FCVS is not always mandatory, but for IMGs and physicians licensed in multiple states it typically speeds review. We coordinate the FCVS profile alongside the state application.

What are the core requirements for a Florida MD license?

Graduation from an LCME-accredited medical school (MD) or AOA-accredited school (DO), completion of USMLE or COMLEX all three steps within a Board-recognized window, at least one year of ACGME/AOA postgraduate training (more for IMGs), a criminal background screen through Livescan, malpractice and disciplinary history disclosure, and a completed application through the MQA portal. Board rules change — always confirm current requirements on the Florida Board of Medicine site.

Does Florida participate in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact?

Yes. Florida is a member of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC), which offers a streamlined licensure pathway for physicians already licensed in another IMLC member state. We handle both the SPL and the Florida issuance side of the IMLC process.

How does Florida handle telehealth for out-of-state providers?

Florida offers an Out-of-State Telehealth Provider Registration for physicians and certain allied health providers who see Florida patients remotely without a Florida license, subject to statutory conditions. It is a registration, not a license, and has separate rules. We file both full licenses and telehealth registrations.

Do you handle renewals and reinstatements?

Yes — biennial renewals, delinquent renewals, CME reconciliation, and reinstatement of null-and-void or lapsed licenses under MQA. Reinstatement timelines are longer than initial licensure; start early.

Do you serve all of Florida?

Yes. Intake is remote across Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and statewide.
